We love summer and all the outdoor adventures that come with it, but when we’re planning our vacations and summer outings, we seldom think about how rain could bring down our plans. So when the weekend comes and so does the rain, we have a few ideas that will help you get out of the weather, and still get out of the house.
1. INDOOR TRAMPOLINE PARK
Literally springing up all over the place, trampoline parks are a great way to get out all of that built up summer energy while staying indoors. In case you haven’t been yet, or maybe not even heard of one, imagine a big warehouse full of trampolines and foam pits and trampoline dodgeball courts. If you haven’t had an opportunity to go yet, you are most definitely missing out. Give yourself or you kids the opportunity to live out their trampoline dreams on steroids. You can thank us and the rain later.
A lot of people tend to find excuses not to visit their local museums because they live there, and they tend to hear so much about it that they feel they know it and there is no need. But, some of the most interesting gems and treasured spaces can be found right in your own home town. A rainy day is an excellent opportunity to discover a few of the shiniest gems right in your back yard.
3. PUBLIC LIBRARY
Another activity to take you can take advantage of in your home town is your local public library. The library is a wonderful resource that you are probably aware of, but one that can quickly become crossed off when a to-do list gets too long. You’ve had a long day at work and you don’t want to stop on the way home. Saturday morning means house or apartment projects. Bad weather in the summer can be a an excellent excuse to grab your favorite iced coffee and spend some quality time with your local library- trust me, she misses you just as much as you miss her.
4. NEW EXERCISE CLASS
Changing plans from an outdoor hike, or a long paddling trip can leave a lot of pent up energy that can be tough to get rid of when the weather turns and you are forced indoors. Taking a new exercise class can be a great way to spend that energy and do something new that gives you that summertime feeling of freedom. Aerial Yoga, Jazzercise, Zumba, Hot Yoga, Bellydancing, Ballet, Kickboxing, Bellyaking, the list goes on and on. So get (in) there and get some exercise and who knows, you might even pick up a new hobby.
Sometimes, no matter how much you want to try to let the indoors settle when your outdoors plans are cancelled, you just really need the ability to feel the outdoors. Our best suggestion is to find the aquarium closest to you and live up the outdoors indoors. Learn about underwater wildlife, spend some valuable time with friends and family, and maybe the rain will even let up long enough for ice cream afterwards.
While rainy weather can feel like a real damper on your plans, there are plenty of other options that will keep you summer feeling fun and spontaneous no matter the weather. What are some of yours?
