Make Spring Cleaning Fun!

Can cleaning every really be “fun”? Well maybe not for everyone, but it doesn’t have to be grueling either. Springtime is right around the corner and it’s time to start dusting off the countertops, getting out the camping gear, and coming out of our Netflix and hot cocoa induced hibernation. This is the traditional time of year to actually clean our homes and spaces, and not just sweep dust under the rug and couch. Let’s make this year’s adventures in scrubbing and dusting a little more fun with the following tips!

Cool Cleaning Gear

This sounds like a strange idea, but it falls in line with the same idea about workout clothes. When you head to the gym looking fly in your gym outfit, somehow you feel better and maybe even workout a little harder. If your mop and duster look like they’ve seen better Springs, it’s time for an upgrade. These days companies have advanced technology on vacuums, cleaning products, even cool buckets and gloves! If you gotta do it, at least clean in style which you’ll enjoy even more. Plus, anyone could use a reason to buy this cool mini desk vacuum that plugs into your USB at work!

Switch it Up

Springtime is the best time for out with the old and in with the new. Go through and donate any old items that are gathering dust to a local Goodwill or donation center. It’s a great way to declutter and also help your community. Consider getting some new furniture, or switching the arrangement around. Changing up the Feng Shui of your bedroom or living room can really breathe new life into what feels like an old and tired space. With all that beautiful spring sunshine coming through your newly scrubbed windows you may enjoy some lively new furniture this year!

Rally the Troops

If it’s just you in your humble abode, you can see if Whiskers and Sparky might help shake out their pet beds. If you share your domicile with others and especially the best little helpers you know, get them involved! Kids love to help out, and they can learn a valuable lesson in responsibility and the importance of cleanliness (or that’s what you can tell them!). You guys can divide and conquer and assign rooms or spaces to each member of the super cool cleaning crew.

Reward Yourself

Nothing wrong with a little incentive to get the job done, right? Set some cleaning goals for yourself or the whole family and come up with some fun rewards. Perhaps ice cream, a fancy night out, new furniture or that awesome camping chair you’ve had your eye on all winter! Adding incentives will make you actually want to get the cleaning done, and it’s fun to look forward to not only a clean house but a chocolate dipped waffle cone with rocky road…if you’re into that sorta thing.

Have Fun!

Yes, it is entirely possible to have fun while cleaning. Put on your favorite album or Pandora station, open the doors and windows to let the fresh air in, and cut a rug a little! After you vacuum it first that is. Having a clean house benefits you from a health standpoint because you’re removing all the dust and germs from counter tops and surfaces, but from an emotional one as well. Cleaning and organizing can improve your mental health, and even reduce stress. Shoot all those old papers into a makeshift basketball goal above the trash can, or have a fashion show with all your 80’s throwback outfits that will be heading to the donation station.

Spring cleaning! Spring cleaning! It doesn’t have to be a dreaded chore, this year make it fun and productive at the same time. Take it a step at a time, and don’t get overwhelmed if you’ve missed the past few cleaning seasons. In the end, you’ll have sparkly new floors, cute new dishwashing gloves, and the well-bring that comes with a decluttered  and so fresh and so clean space.
